Prep For School is nestled on a private 5-acre estate in beautiful Kenthurst. Our sessions go beyond traditional classrooms, utilising both indoor and outdoor spaces. This unique environment allows us to harness the benefits of outdoor learning, providing authentic experiences and social interactions. Outdoor activities encourage risky play, fostering essential skills like fine motor development, socialisation, and problem-solving. By integrating the outdoors into our program, we create a dynamic and enriching learning environment that not only supports academic readiness but also nurtures holistic growth in young children.

Our Difference

To prioritise personalised attention and create a nurturing environment, our group sessions are intentionally limited to a maximum of nine children. This ensures that your little one receives ample one-on-one time with our experienced educators. Once a group begins to reach capacity (around six children) we add another educator to the class.

This deliberate approach not only fosters a relaxed learning atmosphere but also provides the ideal setting for the formation of wonderful friendships. We believe in the power of individualised interactions, allowing each child to thrive academically and socially within our supportive learning community.

Areas we focus on

Pre-reading skills

In our Pre-Reading sessions, we blend the effectiveness of a phonics-based program called Pre-Lit with engaging elements from the 'Milo The Monkey' series by Little Learners Love Literacy. This unique combination provides a structured, skills-based approach to establish a strong foundation for reading. By incorporating these programs, we ensure an interactive and enjoyable learning experience for your child, introducing them to a variety of pre-literacy skills. Pre-Lit focuses on phonetic awareness and oral language development, complemented by a storybook component to familiarise your child with essential reading skills, creating a dynamic and exciting adventure in learning to read.
Pre-writing skills

We take pride in our commitment to enhancing fine motor skills, refining pencil grip, teaching correct cutting techniques, and guiding letter formation. As part of our pre-writing program, we introduce ‘Casey The Caterpillar.’ This hands on and engaging program promotes early writing skills through first recognising the shapes that constitute letters. Establishing a solid foundation in an effective pre-writing program empowers students to avoid initial challenges linked to potential letter reversal. This proficiency not only enhances their writing skills but also proves beneficial for their reading too!
Gross motor skills

Our expansive 5-acre setting isn’t just space; it’s a dynamic learning environment where we actively harness the outdoors for optimal physical development. Our focus on gross motor skills takes full advantage of this vast space, allowing students the freedom to engage in activities such as walking, running, jumping, hopping, balancing, skipping, and throwing. These activities aren’t just fun; they play a crucial role in enhancing overall physical coordination, strength, and spatial awareness.
Numeracy

In our numeracy program, we prioritise number recognition, counting, creating quantities, and exposure to mathematical language. These skills lay a solid foundation for a child’s mathematical understanding. Number recognition builds the ability to identify numerical symbols, counting develops a sense of numerical order and quantity, and creating quantities enhances the comprehension of mathematical relationships.
Social & Emotional Skills

Listening skills, organisational skills, turn taking, sharing, following instructions and forming friendships.

Emotional well-being is a cornerstone of our approach. We focus on building resilience, instilling confidence, and teaching emotional regulation. By addressing the emotional aspect of learning, we aim to create a positive and supportive environment that allows children to thrive not just academically but emotionally as well.
